The edge length has a one-dimensional unit (e.g. meter), the area has this unit squared (e.g. square meter), the volume has this unit to the power of three (e.g. cubic meter). A/V has this unit -1.
The general rhombohedron can be viewed as a cube stretched along a spatial diagonal. The two acute corners at the end of the diagonal that was stretched have three equal acute angles. The other six corners have an acute angle equal to that of the acute corners and two equal obtuse angles. The three angles of the opposite corners are equal. If both angles are ninety degrees, then the rhombohedron is a special case of the cube. Rhombohedrons are point-symmetrical with respect to the intersection point of the spatial diagonals. With identical rhombohedra, space can be filled without gaps.
The rhombohedron gets its name from the rhombuses, also called diamonds, that form its side surfaces. If you cut off the two acute corners of a special rhombohedron, you get Albrecht Dürer's truncated rhombohedron.
Some minerals form shapes in the rhombohedral crystal class, which is not to be confused with the orthorhombic crystal system. Calcite, for example, can crystallize rhombohedrally, although the more general parallelepiped form is more common in nature.
