Cube Calculator

Calculations at a cube (regular hexahedron), a solid with six faces, edges of equal length and angles of equal size.
Enter one value and choose the number of decimal places. Then click Calculate.

Platon, Nuremberg Chronicle Edge length (a): Cube
6 faces, 12 edges, 8 vertices
Faces: squares
Surface area (A):
Volume (V):
Volume diagonal (d):
Circumsphere radius (rc):
Midsphere radius (rm):
Insphere radius (ri):
Surface-to-volume ratio (A/V):
Round to    decimal places.

Formulas:

A=6a2
V=a3
d=a3=2rU
rc=a23
rm=a22
ri=a2
AV=6a

The cube is a Platonic solid. Edge length, diagonal and radius have the same unit (e.g. meter), the area has this unit squared (e.g. square meter), the volume has this unit to the power of three (e.g. cubic meter). A/V has this unit -1.

Net of a hexahedron
Net of a hexahedron, the three-dimensional body is unfolded in two dimensions.

Six-sided dice have the form of a regular hexahedron. These are marked with one to six dots on each side, and are at least 5,000 years old. The shape of dice in general usually corresponds to that of a geometric cube, with the corners rounded to facilitate rolling. However, there are also dice in other shapes that have equal sides, particularly the other Platonic solids, such as the tetrahedron and the dodecahedron. Various trapezohedrons are also used for this purpose. The hexahedron is the dual of the octahedron, meaning that if you swap edges and vertices, you get the other shape.
Cube is derived from the ancient greek kubos. A cubic calculation means calculating with the cube, i.e., to the power of three, corresponding to the volume of a cube as the side length to the power of three. The reverse calculation is the cube root. A cubic equation is also called third degree equation.
The cube is a special form of the cuboid and the extension of the square into the third dimension of space. The extension of the cube into the fourth dimension is called a hypercube or tesseract.
