General Cone Calculator

Calculations at a general cone or generalized cone, a cone with any flat base. In a cone, the sides extend in a straight line to a point outside the base. If the cone is straight, then this point lies perpendicularly above the center of the base. However, this doesn't have to be the case for a general cone; it can also be an oblique cone. Since the base area can be arbitrary and is therefore undefined, there isn't much to calculate here, only the volume, for which the size of the base area must be known.

Height has a one-dimensional unit (e.g. meter), the base area has this unit squared (e.g. square meter), the volume has this unit to the power of three (e.g. cubic meter).

The calculation of the general cone is analogous to that of the general pyramid. The difference is that in the general pyramid, a polygon forms the base, whereas in the general cone, any straight surface can be used. The general cone can therefore be seen as a superordinate category, which includes the general pyramid as a special case. However, the term pyramid is generally preferred for polygon bases.

The formula for calculating volume also applies to bases with a hole. This would not apply to the surface area, which cannot be calculated for cones in general. An example of a cone with a hole is the round hollow cone. Here, surface area calculation is also possible, just as with the circular cone.
A general cone with a straight truncated apex is a general truncated cone. In this case, the sectional area is similar to the base area, meaning it has the same shape but a different size.
