Decimal Time Values - Calculator

Convert time values in weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds into the decimal values of one unit. It is common to have time values like one hour, twelve minutes. The according decimal value, which is better for calculating, is 1.2 hours.

Hours:

Please enter a time in common format and choose the unit for the output. One value with that unit will be calculated. For the calculation, each entered value is converted into seconds, then they are added together and the result in converted to the chosen unit.

Examples: 3 hours, 17 minutes and 30 seconds are 0.1371528 days. 4.5 weeks are exactly 31.5 days, or 756 hours, or 45360 minutes.

For the opposite calculation, see Convert Span of Time.

Decimal time formats should not be confused with decimal time, which was introduced during the French Revolution but did not become widespread. In that era, the day had 10 hours, the hour 100 minutes, and the minute 100 seconds. The division of hours and minutes into 100 smaller units can still be found in the industrial era and is in use there.

Specifying times with individual values, such as hours and minutes, is more common. But calculating with decimal values in a single unit is easier. You can immediately see approximately how much one value is larger or smaller than the other; to determine the ratio, you simply divide the two numbers.
Only unambiguous units can be entered here. The longest unambiguous unit of time in everyday language is actually the week. Months and years have different lengths depending on which one it is.
Precise time specifications are extremely important in many technical fields and are also used in time tracking. The more units a time specification has, the more likely errors can creep in, so using a unit with decimals can be advantageous here.
