Periods per Time Span
Calculate, how many periods of a given length fit into a time span. Enter the time span, this is the complete duration, and the length of one period. The number of periods of equal length, which fit into this time span, will be calculated, as well as the remaining time.
Example: in a time span of 2 days and 5 hours, a period of 4 hours and 8 minutes fits in total 12 times. The remaining time is then 3 hours and 24 minutes.
A period here is, of course, also a time span that must be shorter than the total time span which is to be divided. For the calculation, all times are internally converted into seconds, then divided with remainder. The integer divisor is output as number, while the remainder is first converted back into days, hours, minutes, and seconds and then output. Such a calculation is particularly useful when the duration of the periods is fixed, cannot be changed, and must occur in their entirety. In this case, the remaining time must be used differently, as it cannot be used for such a period. Alternatively, the total time span can be adjusted to fit the periods, if possible.
To divide a time span completely, see calculate regular time intervals. If the periods are not of equal length, then such a calculation must be performed individually, see time sections.
An example of time periods with fixed lengths are teaching units such as school lessons or lectures. These occupy a room, and such usage must be planned. For such directly consecutive events, time should be allocated for changing rooms so that attendees of one event can leave the room, allow new attendees to enter and have the opportunity to arrive at the next event in time. For this calculation, the length of the periods are increased for the corresponding time. This could be, for example, five minutes.
