Time: Add and Subtract Percent
A time span in days, hours, minutes and seconds plus or minus x percent gives another time span. Please enter a span and a percentage to add or subtract and press Calculate. Result as start time makes the calculation again with the previous result.
Example: when you add 30 percent to 2 days and 6 hours, you get 2 days, 22 hours and 12 minutes. If 30 percent are subtracted, 1 day, 13 hours and 48 minutes remain.
To double a value, enter plus 100 percent. To halve it, enter minus 50 percent. Results below zero, with a subtraction of more than 100 percent, are not very useful and are only displayed in seconds.
Percentage calculations for time specifications are not particularly common, but sometimes it is quite helpful to calculate with a percentage of a time span. An example of this might be: if a certain amount of work can be completed in a certain amount of time, how much time is expected to be needed for a certain percentage more or less of that work? This applies to scalable work. If work steps are always the same number and duration, and must be performed for each work process, then they must be subtracted beforehand and then added back in. This could be the journey to and from work within the workplace, turning on the computer or starting up a machine, and similar things.
To calculate, all time specifications are first converted into one unit. The smallest of the units, seconds, is suitable here. Then the percentage is calculated and added or subtracted. Finally, the calculation is carried out back into the four time units days, hours, minutes and seconds.
The longer time units months and years do not have a unique length, but differ, so the longest unit used here is days.
