Calculate the Ratio of two Time Values
Ratio calculator for two durations. It is calculated, how long time A is compared to time B and time B at the ratio of time A. Please enter for both durations at least one time value in days, hours, minutes and seconds.
Round to decimal places.
Time A is x times as long as time B.
Time B is y times as long as time A.
Example: 2 days, 3 hours and 12 minutes is 1.828 times as long as 1 day, 4 hours and 30 seconds. The opposite ratio is 0.547.
A ratio of two times is equivalent to dividing one time of a certain length by another time of a certain length. In this process, the dimension time is canceled out, leaving a dimensionless value, i.e., a number. Mathematically, the procedure is as follows: first, both values are calculated to the same unit of time, seconds being a good example. The seconds are then deleted, i.e., canceled out, and one value is divided by the other. The division is done in both directions, i.e., A divided by B and B divided by A. One result is then the inverse of the other result.
The whole point of this is, of course, to be able to compare the two times more easily, to determine which period is longer and which shorter, and by what factor. The factor, or ratio, is an important value that can then be used for further calculations. For example, using the rule of three, you can easily calculate how much you can expect to achieve in the other time span if you achieve something in one time span. Of course, caution is advised with such projections; they often serve only as estimates, not as exact predictions. For example, if you travel a certain distance in a certain time, then that is speed, and speed is very often not constant but changes frequently, especially over longer periods of time.
