Time Sections Calculator
Add and subtract time sections, like from 12:30 to 14:00 and from 23:45 to 1:20. Enter up to ten time sections in hours in 24h-format and minutes as start and end. Choose, if you want them to add or to subtract. The single time sections span less than 24 hours each. From 23:00 to 1:00, it is 2 hours, whereas from 1:00 to 23:00 it is 22 hours.
Such a calculator is useful, for example, for calculating working hours with breaks. If the working hours are the same every day, you can record the time periods for one day and then, for five working days, multiply the result by 5. If, as is often the case, the working hours on one day of the week, such as Friday, are different, usually shorter, then you multiply the working hours of a normal working day by four and add the working hours of the fifth day. Entering a large number of times into this calculator is complex; in such cases, the calculator for adding multiple times is better suited, although this works with time spans rather than with times of day.
An example of using this calculator in road traffic: You set off at 10:37 and are on the road until 13:24. Then you take a break and continue your journey at 14:09. You reach your destination at 17:42. You then spent 6 hours and 30 minutes driving, and it took 7 hours and 15 minutes from start to finish. The break was therefore 45 minutes.
There are two ways to enter these values to calculate the driving time. One way is to enter the two time periods in the order shown above, each with a plus sign in front of it. The other way is to enter the start and end of the journey in the first line, and the start and end of the break in the second, the latter with a minus sign in front of it. The second method has the advantage that after entering the start and end of the journey, you can calculate the gross driving time. Then enter the break time to obtain the net driving time.
