Compare two Time Spans - Calculator
Calculate, how much longer or shorter one time span is compared to another and the difference between both. Please enter of time 1 and time 2 at least one value at days, hours, minutes or seconds, or multiple values per line.
Examples:
Time 1 is 1 day and 12 hours. Time 2 is 30 minutes and 40 seconds. Then, time 2 fits over 70 times into time 1. The difference is 1 day, 11 hours, 29 minutes and 20 seconds.
2 days and 4 hours are 20 hours and 30 minutes shorter than 3 days and 30 minutes. The second time is almost 1.4 times as long as the first time.
Comparing, mathematically speaking, usually means either calculating a ratio or the difference. Both methods are done here. First, both time intervals must be converted to the same unit. For practical reasons, this is seconds here. Then, the ratio is calculated, which means one value is divided by the other. There are, of course, two ways to do this: first time interval divided by second time interval, and vice versa. Since both lead to different results, both ratios are given out. For the difference, however, one time interval minus the other is calculated. Only one value is displayed here because calculating in reverse yields the same result with a different sign. Instead of a sign, which is plus or minus, the terms longer and shorter are used, which mean the same thing. If time 1 is x time units longer than time 2, then time 2 is also x time units shorter than time 1.
Of course, comparing two different times can often be useful or even necessary, whether in sporting competitions or for recording working hours. Often only the difference is considered, but the ratio can also provide interesting information. However, all these values must be interpreted correctly. A calculator cannot do this, but rather it must be done by people who are familiar with the respective subject.
