Calculate Weekday and Date
Find weekday and date in a number of days and a specific weekday next to it. The current date is preset as appointed date. Enter the time span and a minus, if the date which shall be calculated is in the past. A specific weekday can be chosen. The output shows the date of the calculated day and the specific weekday before and after.
Example: Let's assume it is currently Friday. Eleven days later is a Tuesday. The Monday before that is ten days later, and the Monday after that is 17 days later. The calculator also shows the corresponding date for each day.
It is relatively common for certain appointments to be scheduled for a specific day of the week. Sometimes this is simply due to tradition, or because that day has proven convenient in terms of when most participants are most likely to be available. If such an appointment is to be scheduled some time away from today's date or another date, then a calculator like this can be helpful.
The division of the week into seven days dates back to the ancient Babylonians and has very practical reasons. The moon orbits the Earth in approximately 28 days, displaying its various phases: new moon, waxing moon, full moon, and waning moon. The length of the month is roughly based on this lunar cycle, although nowadays the months fill an entire year and are therefore, on average, somewhat longer. The moon's orbital period, rounded up to 28 days, is now divided by the number of lunar phases, which is 4. The four parts of the month are called weeks, and each of the 7 days of a week is given its own name. Since the Earth's rotation, the Moon's orbital period around the Earth, and the Earth's orbital period around the Sun do not form integer multiples, the dates of the lunar phases nevertheless change over time and do not remain synchronized with weeks and months.
