Calculate the Target Date

Calculator for the duration from now on or from a start date to a target date. The duration is calculated in days, months and years, whereas the days don't have to be entered. The current date is preset as the start date, and the first of the following month as the target date. Simply change these to your desired dates.

If the output is given in days and months, this time reference is not unambiguous, as months have varying lengths. Nevertheless, such a time reference is useful when you want to get a sense of dates that are far apart from each other in time, or when dealing with appointments that, for example, occur once a month on a specific day of the month. However, if you need an exact time interval between one date and another, possibly including daytime, then the output must be in unambiguous units. These are days, weeks, or the shorter units hours, minutes, and seconds. Years are also not included, as leap years have a different length than regular years. For an exact calculation of the time between two appointments in days, hours, and minutes, see the deadline calculator on this page.

Examples: It is December 19th. Then there are 13 days until January 1st of the following year. If it is November 19th, then there are only 12 days until December 1st. Starting again from December 19th, there are 4 months and 12 days until May 1st. Although if it is a leap year there is a leap day between, the time interval is still calculated as 4 months and 12 days. However, the four months are then one day longer than if it were not a leap year. But if you calculate from February 19th to March 1st, for example, there are 10 or 11 days, depending on whether it is a leap year or not, i.e., whether February has 28 or 29 days.
