Calculate Quarters
Calculator for the time span of quarters depending on the start month and their duration in days. A quarter is one fourth of a year, it spans three months. The months have a different amount of days, so not every quarter has the same duration. One quarter can have 89 to 92 days. At the quarter containing February, the length in a normal year and in brackets in a leap year are displayed. Please set the start month to get the quarters. It is assumed that a quarter contains three full months, i.e. it starts on the first of the month and ends on the last of the month. It is rather unusual for a quarter to begin at a time other than the beginning of the month.
Example: if March is the starting month, then the first quarter is March, April and May with 92 days. The second quarter includes June, July and August, also with 92 days. The third quarter includes September, October and November, and has 91 days. The fourth quarter then contains the months December, January and February, with the last two months in a new year. This fourth quarter has 90 days if the year in which February falls is not a leap year and 91 days if it is a leap year.
Quarters often play a role in business management. Fiscal reports can be presented in the form of quarterly reports. Fiscal years can begin in a month other than January, and quarters are shifted accordingly. The start of a fiscal year often depends on the industry in order to better take seasonal limits into account. In agriculture, for example, a fiscal year often begins on May 1st or July 1st. There can also be other reasons, such as historical ones, for a different start.
