Percent of a Year Calculator

Calculates the fraction of one year in percent from a number of days. Please enter an amount of days and select, if it is a normal year with 365 days, or a leap year with 366 days. This year 2026 is not a leap year.
The output is in percent to two decimal places and as a decimal fraction to ten decimal places.

Example: 55 days is about 15 percent of a year, to be precise 15.07 percent of a normal year with 365 days and 15.03 percent of a leap year.

For a similar calculation, see Calculating the percentage of a year at a specific date.

A little mathematical gimmick: The difference in the proportion of one day between a normal year and a leap year is 0.0000074856, which is 0.00074856 percent, or about 7.5 ten-thousandths of a percent. To get these values back to 1 or 100 percent, you can multiply them by 365 times 366 and then take the average of these two values. So (0.00074856*365*366+0.00074856*365*366)/2, or more simply, 0.00074856*365*366. The first multiplication by 365 or 366 brings the value back from the proportional difference of one day between a normal year and a leap year to the proportion of one day; the second multiplication by the other value returns the full year. The result of this calculation is 100.0001304 percent. However, this value is only accurate to three decimal places, even though the original values had eight, five of those beyond the last 0. Rearranging the two factors, 365 and 366, so that they are at the same side, results in a worse value. If one now calculates with the more precise value of 0.000748559023879, the result is just below, but very close to, 100 percent. Therefore, this is merely a rounding error, which appears to be systematically adding up in the less precise calculation.
