Date: Calculate Temporal Distance
Calculator for the distance to a date in the future and in the past. Please enter the reference date and the temporal distance or another date to calculate the other values. Today's date is preselected as the reference date. Earlier and future dates are the temporal distance away from today or from the reference date.
Example: July 1st falls roughly in the middle of the year. If you move 100 days away from this date, you reach March 23rd in the past and October 9th in the future. If you move 150 days away, the future date is November 28th. For the past date, it depends on the year, whether it is a leap year or not. If it is not a leap year, the date 150 days in the past is February 1st, and in a leap year, it is February 2nd. With an according reference date and distance, the leap day of February 29th, which is inserted in leap years, can also play a role in determining the future date.
The temporal distance is specified in years and days. One day is an unambiguous unit of time, but one year is not. This is because there are leap years and regular years, with leap years having 366 days and regular years having 365 days. Therefore, the calculator does not internally convert between the entered years and days. Entering days calculates the exact past and future date, while entering years only changes the year number accordingly. All years are treated the same. This means that entering years does not always correspond to the same number of days, and conversely, you can get a different result if you convert the year to a specific number of days before entering that number.
