Angle Correction
Correct angles to values between 0 and 360 degrees or 2 pi. Correct arc minutes and seconds to values between 0 and 60. Negative values will be corrected, too. Enter at degrees and arc minutes only integers, arc seconds, decimal degrees and radian can be floating point numbers. Fill out one or several fields to correct the according angle.
Examples: An angle of 5π will be corrected to 1π.
An angle of -70 arc seconds equates to an angle of 359 degreed, 58 arc minutes and 50 arc seconds.
When arcminutes or arcseconds are specified, these are checked first. If the arcseconds are negative, 60 is added to them and the number of arcminutes is decreased by one until a positive value is reached. If the arcseconds are greater than 60, then 60 is subtracted from them and the number of arcminutes is increased by one until a value less than 60 is reached. Then the arcminutes are checked. If those are negative, 60 is added to them and the number of degrees is decreased by one until a positive value is reached. If the arcseconds are greater than 60, then 60 is subtracted from them and the number of degrees is increased by one until a value less than 60 is reached.
For an angle less than zero, 360 degrees or 2π is added to it until a positive value is reached. For an angle greater than 360 degrees or 2π, 360 degrees or 2π are subtracted until the value is less than 360 degrees or 2π.
Sometimes specifying negative angles or angles larger than a full circle (i.e., 360 degrees or 2π) is useful, sometimes it is not. A larger value provides information about the number of full rotations, while a negative value provides information about the direction of rotation. The relevance of this information, and whether it can be omitted or not, must be judged by the user.
