Material Calculator - Cross Section, Flow Rate and Quantity

Calculator for the cross section area, the velocity of the flow and the volume in a certain time. This can be e.g. at a river or anything else which is flowing. Cross section and velocity are taken at the same place. Please enter three values and select the units you want. The fourth value will be calculated.

Cross section:
Flow rate:
Time: h, min, s
Volume:

Example: a hose with a cross section area of 2 cm² fills a basin with 100 liters in three minutes. Then the flow rate is 2.78 meters per second.
The cross-section of a hose or pipe is usually round and can be calculated from a circle if you know the inner radius or diameter. Time can of course be stopped with a clock. Measuring speed or volume can be complicated in practice, but you often know the volume before, for example when you need to fill a container of a certain size.

What flows is primarily liquids, particularly water, but not only that. Solids can also flow under very specific conditions; for example, sand or soil can start to slide on certain gradients, which also corresponds to a flowing movement. Glaciers also flow, albeit very slowly. Gases can make this kind of movement much more easily, although these are often not referred to as a flow, but rather as a stream. Electric current is a different matter; it is said both colloquially and in science and technology that it flows. This flow is not quite the same as the flow of water, for example, but to give a better idea, the cross-section is often compared with the current strength and the voltage with the gradient of slope or the resulting flow speed.
