A quadratic field or square.

A square field is, of course, the simplest shape of a field and also the one for which the calculation is simplest. The square is a special form of the rectangle, and in fact, rectangular fields with other aspect ratios are far more common than square fields. All rectangular fields of the same type, including their square varieties, are suitable for tiling an area without gaps. This means they can be placed next to each other in such a way that no gaps remain. This is often desirable to avoid wasting space. Therefore, very often such fields are encountered where the shape of the available space allows it. Even if the entire field is not rectangular, the central fields are sometimes assigned rectangular shapes, and only the boundary fields have more complex shapes.
Sports fields are rarely square, but game boards often are. A chessboard, for example, is a square which is itself divided into eight by eight, or 64 smaller squares. The mathematical calculation of squaring gets its name from the shape of the square, corresponding to its area. A square with side length x has an area of ​​x², pronounced x square. Quadrat is another word for square, the name quadratic is found in expressions like quadratic equation.
