Calculate Sun Position in Basel
Calculator for the position of the Sun in Basel from local position, date and time. Angle above horizon and direction will be shown. By pressing Current coordinates, the coordinates known to your device as own position will be shown. This has to be permitted to the device and maybe GPS has to be activated. You can also enter own coordinates, as decimal degrees, latitude and longitude separated by space. Then you have to take care that the time zone matches these coordinates. Or choose one of 50 cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland from the list at the bottom.

UTC is the coordinated world time. Central European time is UTC+1, when daylight saving is active, it is UTC+2. At a positive height (angle), it is day. When the height above horizon is negative, the Sun is below the horizon, it is night. The direction is shown in degrees and as an abbreviation, with N for North, S for South, E for East and W for West. The value in degrees is more exact.
Coordinates can be determined with Google Maps, for example. To do this, simply tap on the desired point on the map, and the corresponding coordinates will be displayed alongside other information.
The closer you are to the equator, the higher the sun can rise in the sky. At a latitude of about 23.5 degrees or less, the sun can be at its zenith, which is straight up in the sky. On the other hand, the maximum height of the sun at the poles is also almost 23.5 degrees, which is reached in midsummer. This value of 23.5 degrees corresponds to the inclination of the earth's axis to the orbit around the sun.
