Mass Comparison

Compare masses (weights) in different units and with the average mass of human, animals and things. Kilogram (kg) is the official SI unit, one kilogram is 1000 grams. Common in Anglo-America is the pound avoirdupois (lb). Ton is the metric ton with 1000 kilograms. The masses for human, animals and things of course are approximate average values, which have large individual deviations.
Please enter one value, the other values will be calculated.

For example, a blue whale weighs about as much as 400000000000 fleas. This number is four hundred billion. Of course, this isn't necessarily exact. Blue whales come in different sizes, and the same is probably true for fleas. Whereas a metric ton always contains 1000000000 milligrams, or one billion milligrams. This is 1000³, since the steps between metric units are 1000, and there are three steps between milligrams and tonnes.

The kilogram is the SI unit of mass, the unit used in the International System of Units. It is derived from the gram, with the prefix kilo meaning thousand. Colloquially, the kilogram is often called a kilo. Other units based on the gram, such as milligrams, are also international standards. In a broader sense, the tonne or metric ton, with 1000 kilograms or one million grams, also belongs to this group. The pound, on the other hand, is a unit from the considerably more complex Anglo-American system of measurement, which, although officially superseded by the metric system, is still used in Great Britain and the USA.
The other reference units for mass used in this calculation are not unambiguous. They are used primarily for comparison and illustrative purposes. The flea is often cited as an example of a very small creature, whereas the blue whale, the largest living animal, is also likely one of the largest animals in the history of life on Earth. Mice and elephants are also frequently used as examples of small and large animals. The objects mentioned are familiar from our everyday lives.
