Roof Interior Space Calculator

Calculates the theoretically available volume of a gable roof from the inside dimensions. Practically, less than the calculated interior space will be usable, because the corners often can't be used as storage room or for other purposes. The space under the roof can be an attic or a penthouse apartment.

Please enter the inside dimensions of the roof width b, length of the roof slopes s and the roof length l. Height h, the angles at the edges and the inner volume will be calculated. Please enter the lengths in centimeters, the volume will be calculated in cubic meters.

Example: with a width of 900 centimeters, a roof pitch of 520 centimeters and a length of 700 centimeters, the height at the ridge is 260.58 centimeters. The roof then has an angle of inclination of about 30 degrees and an angle of about 120 degrees at the ridge. The volume of the attic or penthouse apartment in this case is just over 80 cubic meters.

An attic is a storage room that is usually only slightly insulated. A penthouse apartment, also called a garret, on the other hand, should have good insulation. Attic apartments can get very warm inside in summer. The reasons for this are that the roof is more exposed to sunlight and the warm air in the house rises up. Small windows often make ventilation difficult. Good insulation not only prevents cold, but also protects against heat. Sun protection on the windows can be useful. In winter, an attic apartment often needs to be heated less because it benefits from the heat from the rooms below. Another advantage of a penthouse apartment is that you often get a better view from there. It also makes sense to use the space available in a house as much as possible.
