Calculate the power per mass in watts per kilograms or pounds body weight. This value is measured at cycling or with a bicycle ergometer, to compare the power of persons with different weights. The common value is between 1 and 7, whereas 1 is a value of physically weakened or ill people. On the other hand, values above 6 are considered as world class. Of course, also the duration is important here, in which the power can be performed. The value should be kept for half an hour to one hour. For longer times, the values are lower. For several hours, 4 is a really good value. For a very short time of a few seconds, values of up to 25 are possible, but probably not recommended.
Please enter two values, the third one will be calculated. Instead of kilograms, pounds (lb) can be choosen. 1 lb = 453.59237 grams. The calculation is quite simple: the first value (power in watts) is divided by the second value (mass, colloquially also called weight).
Example: an cyclist with a body weight of 80 kilograms, pedaling with 300 watts, performs with a power of 3.75 watts per kilogram body weight.
In cycling, you often hear watts per body weight in connection with FTP, which stands for Functional Threshold Power. This indicates the average power per kilogram that you can achieve over a period of 20 minutes.
The power per body mass is of course an indicator of how many muscles you have in proportion to your total body mass. Of course, this only applies to those muscles that can be used for movements such as those made when cycling, so in particular the leg muscles.
