Calculate Solar System Model

Calculator for the distances and sizes in a scale model of the solar system. Such models, which illustrate the proportions in our solar system, in reality are implemented as planetary walks, where you start at a meter high Sun and walk a few kilometers to the only centimeter sized planets. In this calculator, you will find the Sun with its eight planets, the dwarf planet Pluto and some of the largest moons. Additionally, there is also listed the star next to us, the system Alpha Centauri, to show the distances between the stars. Alpha Centauri is 4.34 light-years away from the Sun, 274460 times further than planet Earth.

If no length units are chosen, the units of all values are equal and can be feet, yards, meters, miles or even pixels. No scale is shown then. If the input value is entered with the unit centimeters (cm), meters (m) or kilometers (km), for the other values the best matching of these three units is chosen and a scale is calculated. Example: at a scale one to one billion, the Sun has a diameter of 1.39 meters, Earth in a distance of 150 meters has a size of 1.3 centimeters, the Moon only 3.5 millimeters. The 5 centimeters large Neptune is 4.5 kilometers away. To Alpha Centauri, it is more than forty thousand kilometers.
