Half Stadium Calculator

Calculations at a half stadium, a lengthwise halved stadium. At each end of the short straight line of this shape there are round corners (quarter circles), which are mirror images of each other. Between the other ends of the quarter circles is the long straight line. There are no corners between the short side and the quarter-circles, while a right angle is situated between the long side and each of the quarter-circles.
Enter short straight side length and circle radius and choose the number of decimal places. Then click Calculate.

Euclid Circle radius (r): Half stadium
Short straight side (a):
Long straight side (l):
Perimeter (p):
Area (A):
Round to    decimal places.

Formulas:

l=a+2r
p=πr+a+l
A=r(πr+2a)2

pi:
π=3.141592653589793...

Radius, lengths and perimeter have the same unit (e.g. meter), the area has this unit squared (e.g. square meter).

The half-stadium is one method of dividing a stadium shape into two equal parts. The alternative method is an elongated semicircle. If both the half-stadium and the elongated semicircle are subsequently bisected along their centerlines, the result is an elongated quarter circle. Under this division, the two resulting mirror-image segments remain equal in size but are no longer congruent. This phenomenon is referred to as chirality, which means handedness.
The half-stadium exhibits axial symmetry with respect to the perpendicular bisector passing through its two straight sides. This axis of symmetry also corresponds to the line that generates the two elongated quarter circles during the aforementioned division. The half-stadium possesses no other symmetry properties. The three-dimensional equivalent of the half-stadium is the half-capsule. This form constitutes the solid of revolution generated by rotating the half-stadium around its axis of symmetry.

The height of the half-stadium is equal to the radius r of the original circle. The long side is equal in length to the short side plus the diameter of that circle. The perimeter consists of half the circumference of the circle plus the two straight sides. The area is equal to that of a corresponding semicircle plus that of a rectangle with side lengths a and r.
