Calculate Liters in a Tetra Container

Calculator of how many liters fit in a tetrahedron-shaped container of a certain size.

Mathematically, this is a regular tetrahedron, a quadrilateral with equal vertices, edges, and sides. Tetra containers are often made from a tube that is alternately cut horizontally and vertically and then sealed. They therefore have rounded corners and edges, which means that the values calculated here differ slightly from their real content.
Tetra Pak® packaging originally came in this form, but is now mostly box-shaped.

Tetra container
A tetrahedron.

Please enter edge length, height or volume, the other values will be calculated. h = √6 * a/3, V = √2 * a³/12

Edge length:cm
Height:cm
Volume:liters

Example: a tetra container with an edge length of 20 cm has a volume of just under one liter.

If the tetra container is only partially filled, the content can be calculated here if it is on one side or perpendicular on one tip.

Partially filled tetra container
Partially filled tetra container standing on one side.

Please enter edge length and fill level. The volume will be calculated.

Edge length:cm
Fill level:cm
Volume:liters

Example: a tetra container standing on its side with an edge length of 20 cm and a fill level of 10 cm has a volume of 0.89 liters.

The tetra container standing vertically on a tip has less content than the one standing on its side with the same fill level. The lower the level, the greater the difference.

Partially filled tetra container on a tip
Partially filled tetra container standing on a tip.

Please enter edge length and fill level. The volume will be calculated.

Edge length:cm
Fill level:cm
Volume:liters

Example: a tetra container standing on its tip with an edge length of 20 cm and a fill level of 10 cm has a volume of 0.22 liters.

Here you can convert metric volume units into customary and imperial units.
