Its volume is the length of a side to the power of three, the side length is the cube root of the volume. The volume grows much faster than the length, a million liters fit in a cube with an edge length of 10 meters.

The cube is the object whose volume is easiest to calculate and where this size can be represented clearly and understandably. However, calculating it mentally is difficult; the cube root is often incorrectly calculated based on intuition, usually too high. Therefore, a calculator, this or any other, is recommended not only for precise calculations, but also for estimating the order of magnitude involved. Incidentally, if you double the edge length of a cube, you multiply its volume eightfold (2³=8); tripling its length results in a volume 27 times larger (3³=27), and so on.
The meter is the SI unit of length, the internationally standardized and in many places most commonly used unit, which is firmly rooted and frequently used in many people's lives. The SI unit of volume is derived from this, the cubic meter. However, in everyday life, we deal much more frequently with liters, of which one cubic meter contains 1000, which is often far too large. Therefore, the volume and thus also the mass contained therein is often greatly underestimated.
