Determine the Mean Value of Geo Coordinates

Calculates the mean (the center) of coordinates from several values. Please enter the coordinates of a series of measurement in decimal degrees. North and East values are seperated by space or by comma, coordinates by line break.

The value, which is in the center of the entered coordinates, will be calculated and linked to Google maps. The input can have up to 1000 characters, which are about 40 coordinates in the above form. The mean value compensates random errors, but not systematic errors.

An example for an input of three values:
52.520817 13.40945
52.419706 13.39834
52.631928 13.51056
These are the coordinates of three more or less prominent points in Berlin: the TV tower, somewhere in the south of the city and far up in the north. The average value is the point that is exactly in the middle of these three points, this has the coordinates 52.524150 13.43945 and is located a little east of the middle.

Calculating the average is very simple: The geo-coordinates are separated into latitude (first value, for example 52.520817) and longitude (second value, for example 13.40945). Longitude and latitude are added together and the result is divided by the number. In other words, the normal calculation of the arithmetic mean, for longitude and latitude separately. The height of these points above sea level is neglected in this calculation. With large differences in altitude and relatively short distances, you have to work with trigonometric methods if you want to take these into account. Then you can of course also get an average value that is above or below the ground.
The average value from the geo-coordinates is very accurate if the respective points are not too far apart, ideally less than a few hundred kilometers. At greater distances it becomes apparent that the earth is not a perfect sphere, but is flattened at the poles. Also it has bumps and dents that result from a different distribution of its density, but these have a height or depths of below 100 meters.
