Calculate Potential Energy

Calculator for potential energy, the energy that mass has at a height. This energy is released when the mass loses height, e.g. when a corresponding body falls down. In order to gain altitude, this energy must be expended. The formula for the calculation is Ep=m*g*h. The height refers to the difference in height that the mass travels when falling towards the center of gravity (i.e. downwards).
Please enter three values to calculate the fourth. The g-acceleration is preset with the standard value. One joule (J) is equal to one newton meter (Nm) or one watt second (Ws). The watt hour (Wh) has 3600 of these.

Mass (m):
g-acceleration (g): m/s²
Height (h):
Energy (Ep):

Round to decimal places.

Example: a 5 ton weight hanging 8 meters above the ground has a potential energy of 109 watt hours. With this energy, for example, you could watch television for about two hours.
