Calculator Energy for a Number of Households

Calculates, how many households can be supplied with a certain amount of electric energy for one year. This energy e.g. is produced by solar or wind power, for the calculation of the produced energy see there. This produced energy can be entered here, to estimate how many average 3-person-households can be supplied.

Please enter two values, the third value will be calculated. The units for energy are preset differently because the produced energy in most calculations is much higher. These units can be adjusted.

Example: the 5 MW wind turbine from the example in the upper wind power link can theoretically supply more than 5000 households with electric energy.

Only the energy from electricity is considered here. Many households still use gas for cooking or heating, but there are also other archaic forms of heating, such as oil or wood. Electricity will play an increasing role here in the foreseeable future and become the universal energy source in households. The switch to electric heating and vehicles will of course increase electricity demand, but will reduce the consumption of other, often far more harmful energy sources.

The actual electricity demand of a household can deviate greatly from the average value; the 3500 kilowatt hours per year given here for a household with 3 people is an average for Germany from 2024. Of course, different values apply for a different number of people. Then the consumption of an apartment in an apartment building is lower than in a single-family home, and that in a modern low-energy house is lower than in an unrenovated old building. Finally, the slow but steady exchange of consumers of other energy sources for those with electricity will increase electricity demand.
