Example: It is 9:45 a.m. on the morning of August 21st. If you add 20 hours to this time, it is 5:45 a.m. on the following day, August 22nd.

Calculating with times is more cumbersome and prone to error than working with many other types of values ​​because the units do not follow a decimal system. A minute has 60 seconds, an hour has 60 minutes, and a day has 24 hours. While the ratios involved vary, they are at least fixed. However, if a time difference spans a change of month, a fixed ratio can no longer be applied because months vary in length. Leap years add further complexity. Although it is possible to calculate changes involving months, looking up the values ​​in a table is often simpler. Internally, this calculator converts the entered start time into a fixed value known as a timestamp. The time interval is then converted into seconds and either added to respectively or subtracted from that timestamp to generate a new one. Finally, the new timestamp is converted back into a date and time. This conversion process relies on the system's built-in date data, thereby eliminating the need for error-prone manual calculations.
