Sustainable investment with stocks on the stock market, list ↓ of sustainable listed companies.
Stocks are purchased as investments with the goal of increasing wealth. However, they are also a way to influence the economy and thus politics worldwide. This approach is called impact investing.
By purchasing stocks, you support the company in question. It is therefore worthwhile to only purchase shares in companies that are worthy of support.
Sustainability is not just a trend, but one of the most important and fastest-growing global topics, offering significantly better long-term returns than the outdated and obsolete part of the economy based on fossil fuels.
Sustainability is the most important aspect in the moral assessment of corporate actions. The term comes from forestry. If you cut down a forest, you suddenly have a lot of wood, but no more forest. That is not sustainable. If, on the other hand, you only cut down as much as grows back, you have both wood and forest permanently. This is sustainable management. Applied to other areas, this means that you should only take from the earth what it can permanently replenish.
Investing in companies that use fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas is prohibited according to this criterion. Firstly, these raw materials took several hundred million years to form and will be consumed in a few hundred years. This is the opposite of sustainability. Secondly, their consumption produces carbon dioxide, CO2, which fuels climate change and thus endangers life on Earth in general.
Sustainable stocks are therefore primarily those of companies involved in regenerative (renewable) energy production, as these replace fossil fuels. These are primarily manufacturers of solar modules and photovoltaic technology, as well as manufacturers of wind turbines. In addition, there are suppliers to this industry, such as mechanical engineering companies for silicon-processing machines. Next come power producers, which operate photovoltaic systems and wind farms and, if possible, no longer operate fossil-fuel power plants. Then there are manufacturers of electric vehicles, batteries, and fuel cells, as well as their suppliers, who can make transportation climate-neutral. And finally, there are companies from all sectors that generally operate in a climate-neutral and environmentally responsible manner.
Numerous lists of sustainable companies can be found. You can also invest your money in green equity funds. ETFs with this focus also exist, and these charge lower fees. However, you should get an overview of what funds invest in. Sometimes, so-called sustainable or green funds also include oil companies, for example. This is often the case when investing according to the "best in class" principle. In reality, however, even the best oil company is never sustainable by definition. A physically replicating Clean Energy ETF can be a good choice.
Sustainable Stocks
This is a list of global companies that the author personally considers to be particularly sustainable. The list is neither balanced nor representative, and certainly not complete. The list does not constitute a recommendation to buy, but rather is intended as an encouragement to inform yourself about the companies in question.
Stocks are a risky investment; the money invested can increase or decrease, and can even disappear completely if a company goes bankrupt. Nevertheless, stocks are considered a good long-term investment strategy. However, you should never invest money that you need for other purposes, or even take out a loan for it. Some of the stocks on this list must be classified as highly speculative and risky.
