Calculate Cost of Battery Charge

Calculator for the costs of charging the battery of an electric device, depending on accu size and electricity rate. The accu size is given in watt-hours, this can be calculated from charge in ampere-hours and voltage in volts. With the electricity rate, which commonly is priced per kilowatt-hour and the charge in percent, the costs per charge can be calculated.

Charge:
Voltage:V
Accu size:
Electricity rate:per kWh
Charge:%
Costs:per charge

Please specify the charge (capacity) and the voltage, or the battery size. Please also fill in the electricity price. The charging costs will be calculated. A charge of less than 100 percent can also be calculated. Such a charge also occurs if you do not start at 0 percent and charge fully, for example from 15 to 100 percent the charge is 85 percent.

Example of a small battery: the battery of a smartphone has a capacity of 2420 milliampere hours (mAh) and a voltage of 3.8 volts. This means that the battery size is 9.2 watt hours (Wh). With an electricity price of 30 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh), a charge of 80 percent costs less than a quarter of a cent.

Example of a large battery in an electric car: the Volkswagen ID.3 has a battery size of 62 kilowatt hours (but there are also other sizes for this model). At the same electricity price as above (30 cents/kWh) and a charge from 20 to 80 percent (i.e. 60 percent), this costs 1116 cents, or 11.16 euros or dollars or such.

Charging small batteries, such as those in smartphones, of course only costs a tiny amount of money. But if you have several such devices in your household and have to charge them frequently, then over the course of a year the total can add up to a significant amount. It might be worth doing a calculation like this. You might save a little here with solar charging.
