Calculations at a square or regular tetragon. A square is a convex quadrilateral with four right angles and four edges of equal length. Enter one value and choose the number of decimal places. Then click Calculate.
Formulas:
d = √2 * a
p = 4 * a
A = a²
rc = a / √2
ri = a / 2
Angle: 90°
2 diagonals
Edge length, diagonal, perimeter and radius have the same unit (e.g. meter), the area has this unit squared (e.g. square meter).

Diagonals and bisecting lines coincide, they intersect with the median lines and with centroid, circumcircle and incircle center in one point. To this, the square is point symmetric and rotationally symmetric at a rotation of 90° or multiples of this. Furthermore, the square is axially symmetric to the diagonals and to the median lines.

The square is the namesake of the mathematical method of squaring. A number squared is multiplied by itself. If the number has a unit, then this is also squared, as with the square, where the length and width are the same and when multiplied together they give the area. The reverse calculation is the square root; if this is taken from the area of a square, then the side length results again. A diagonally halved square produces two equal isosceles and also right triangles. Divided by the bisector, two equal rectangles are created, with the short side half as long as the long side. The squaring of the circle has become a metaphor for an unsolvable problem, which describes the impossibility of constructing a square with the same area from a circle or vice versa. For mathematical approximation by calculation, see the squaring the circle calculator.
